Abu Dhabi author Summia Sukar’s debut novel is set to be recreated on radio.

BBC Radio 4 will air a dramatised version The Boy from Aleppo on November 8 at 2.30pm GMT (that’s 5.30pm Abu Dhabi time).

Published earlier this year, the novel follows a 14 year-old Syrian boy with Asperger’s syndrome as he struggles to understand the violent world around him.

A talented artist, he expresses his feelings and communicates through paintings.

Speaking to he National back in July, the British Sukar — who is of Syrian and Algerian decent — explained that her novel was an attempt to portray the hard realities of war-torn Syria.

“I really wanted to convey the raw and vulgar state that Syria is in,” she said.

“There’s always the temptation to sugarcoat what’s going on, but I really wanted to pull back the curtain and really give it to the reader in a raw way.”
