The actress Soha Ali Khan, who will play the role of a police officer in her forthcoming film Joe B Carvalho, says the project has taught her a few new skills. "I took a few martial arts classes as the film has some action scenes. I'm currently shooting my police scenes in Mumbai now, while the rest of the film has been shot in Bangalore," said the 34-year-old. "I also took dancing classes for one sequence." Directed by the debutant director Sameer Tiwari, Joe B Carvalho co-stars Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jafferi. Ali Khan has two other films in the works: Char Footiya Chokre and a new romantic comedy with the actor Shreyas Talpade. "Both films are in the post-production stage," she said. * IANS

Vivek Oberoi celebrates his renewed fame

The actor Vivek Oberoi has expressed his joy at the positive response to his latest release Zila Ghaziabad, currently screening in UAE cinemas. "It's a big comeback for me," said the 36-year-old star. "My producer and the distributors were telling me that it has got a historic opening in the north, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The response from single-screen theatres has been terrific. But no matter how much money the film earns, what's important is we've done our job, which is to give a good film that even after 10 years, people will appreciate." * IANS

Chaudhary talks Hollywood project

Prashita Chaudhary, the co-producer of actor Emraan Hashmi's debut Hollywood project, is determined the film will have a distinctly international flavour. "My focus is to integrate world cinema with our own," she said. "Someone has to take a step in this regard and this film is my effort towards achieving that goal. Shooting of the film has already begun, with portions in Berlin and the rest to be done in Patiala as the story has a huge Indian connect." The movie, featuring 33-year-old Hashmi as the lead character, is directed by the Oscar winner Danis Tanovic (No Man's Land). Emraan and Chaudhary recently walked the red carpet together at the Berlin International Film Festival for the world premiere of Tanovic's movie An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker. * IANS

Amit Trivedi to compose music for Jugalbandi

The director Sameer Sharma's next project, Jugalbandi, explores Hindustani classical music. The challenge, he admits, lies in making the traditional musical genre accessible to the young. "The score of Jugalbandi, which is the story of two musicians, will be done by Amit Trivedi, known for his compositions in films like Dev D, Ishaqzaade and English Vinglish," said Sharma. "Trivedi creates a sound that crosses borders and he's very knowledgeable about all kinds of music. So he's my guy for the sound." Sharma underlined his commitment to mixing traditional Hindustani classical sounds with identifiably western tones, revealing the final cut could include a hint of jazz. * IANS

Finally, all of Gulf Photo Plus’s photo books are available for sale at their show.

In Abu Dhabi, Louvre Abu Dhabi has a beautiful selection of catalogues and art books, and Magrudy’s – across the Emirates, but particularly at their NYU Abu Dhabi site – has a great selection in art, fiction and cultural theory.
