The date of Robbie Williams' concert in Abu Dhabi has been changed. In a video message posted on his official Facebook page on March 25, the former Take That singer said that he was shifting the date, part of his Let Me Entertain You Tour, from Sunday, April 26 to Saturday, April 25.
In a strangely stilted voice, Williams repeats words being fed to him by somebody off-camera, saying: “Hello Abu Dhabi, Robbie Williams here with a public announcement. I have decided that I don’t like Sundays any more and I much prefer Saturdays.
“So I’m not going to ruin your working week by performing on a Sunday, I am going to perform on your weekend – which is Saturday, the 25th of April.” He signs off by saying many thanks. Best wishes to you all.”
The promoters, Flash Entertainment, said: “Flash Entertainment today announces that Robbie Williams has shifted his tour schedule plans and will now perform in Abu Dhabi on Saturday April 25 to accommodate the weekend for his regional fans.
“Despite a busy tour schedule and numerous engagements, Robbie has worked hard to come in earlier and perform for his regional fans at the du Arena, Yas Island Abu Dhabi. Fans can now plan their weekend on Yas Island to stay, play and party and enjoy great weekend packages.
"Fans who have already purchased tickets to the Robbie Williams Let Me Entertain You Tour for the Sunday show do not need to change their tickets and can use their existing ticket at the gates on Saturday April 25," the statement continued. "For any questions, fans can contact helpdesk@ticketmaster.ae"
However, not everybody was happy with the switch. One reader emailed The National and said: "What about all the people with Flights and Hotel bookings who were really looking forward to this?
“My family were cutting a 70th birthday short in Istanbul so that my wife could see [Williams] and we have all our flights booked for the return on the 26th. In order to accommodate Mr Williams we would now have to spend hundreds on flight amendments.
“I’m positive we won’t be the only ones – we know people flying from the UK to see him. This is truly awful by [promoters]Flash.”

Muslim Council of Elders condemns terrorism on religious sites
The Muslim Council of Elders has strongly condemned the criminal attacks on religious sites in Britain.
It firmly rejected “acts of terrorism, which constitute a flagrant violation of the sanctity of houses of worship”.
“Attacking places of worship is a form of terrorism and extremism that threatens peace and stability within societies,” it said.
The council also warned against the rise of hate speech, racism, extremism and Islamophobia. It urged the international community to join efforts to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Three ways to limit your social media use
Clinical psychologist, Dr Saliha Afridi at The Lighthouse Arabia suggests three easy things you can do every day to cut back on the time you spend online.
1. Put the social media app in a folder on the second or third screen of your phone so it has to remain a conscious decision to open, rather than something your fingers gravitate towards without consideration.
2. Schedule a time to use social media instead of consistently throughout the day. I recommend setting aside certain times of the day or week when you upload pictures or share information.
3. Take a mental snapshot rather than a photo on your phone. Instead of sharing it with your social world, try to absorb the moment, connect with your feeling, experience the moment with all five of your senses. You will have a memory of that moment more vividly and for far longer than if you take a picture of it.

What the law says
Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.
“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.
“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”
If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.
