Register for Rush-A-Way: a new adventure race in the UAE

  • Arabic

Inspired by the popular reality television game show The Amazing Race, in which teams of two people race around the world in competition with others, Rush-A-Way offers a great new activity for the UAE's adrenaline junkies and adventure enthusiasts.
On Friday, April 17, up to 100 teams, with two members each, can compete to complete 10 challenges that will test their physical fitness (speed, strength and accuracy), mental abilities (logic and brainpower) as well as navigation skills as they race around Dubai tackling tasks to find the clues leading to the next activity location.
A decent stamina and basic fitness levels aside, participants need to culture the right attitude and spirit of competition as well as the ability to work well in teams - so member-up with a mate you know, like and trust. At least one of you needs to have a car, while the other helps to navigate between locations.
The first three teams to arrive at the finish line after completing all the challenges will win the race, and prizes worth Dh12,000, Dh7,000 and Dh4,000, plus a goody bag of cash and vouchers for each team that completes the entire race.
Hitesh Sharma, the co-founder of Rush-A-Way UAE, says: "It's basically an urban scavenger hunt - competitive and challenging, yes, but above all, a platform to have unadulterated, healthy fun." While he does not reveal the exact nature of the various activities and games, he adds, "All tasks have been tested by professionals, who will be supervising on the day of the race. They do not involve any sharp objects, fire or heights. Above all, it's not a car race - teams will be asked to strictly follow RTA rules, and fret not, all the locations we've selected will have ample of parking space!"

How has net migration to UK changed?

The figure was broadly flat immediately before the Covid-19 pandemic, standing at 216,000 in the year to June 2018 and 224,000 in the year to June 2019.

It then dropped to an estimated 111,000 in the year to June 2020 when restrictions introduced during the pandemic limited travel and movement.

The total rose to 254,000 in the year to June 2021, followed by steep jumps to 634,000 in the year to June 2022 and 906,000 in the year to June 2023.

The latest available figure of 728,000 for the 12 months to June 2024 suggests levels are starting to decrease.

'Worse than a prison sentence'

Marie Byrne, a counsellor who volunteers at the UAE government's mental health crisis helpline, said the ordeal the crew had been through would take time to overcome.

“It was worse than a prison sentence, where at least someone can deal with a set amount of time incarcerated," she said.

“They were living in perpetual mystery as to how their futures would pan out, and what that would be.

“Because of coronavirus, the world is very different now to the one they left, that will also have an impact.

“It will not fully register until they are on dry land. Some have not seen their young children grow up while others will have to rebuild relationships.

“It will be a challenge mentally, and to find other work to support their families as they have been out of circulation for so long. Hopefully they will get the care they need when they get home.”

$1,000 award for 1,000 days on madrasa portal

Daily cash awards of $1,000 dollars will sweeten the Madrasa e-learning project by tempting more pupils to an education portal to deepen their understanding of math and sciences.

School children are required to watch an educational video each day and answer a question related to it. They then enter into a raffle draw for the $1,000 prize.

“We are targeting everyone who wants to learn. This will be $1,000 for 1,000 days so there will be a winner every day for 1,000 days,” said Sara Al Nuaimi, project manager of the Madrasa e-learning platform that was launched on Tuesday by the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, to reach Arab pupils from kindergarten to grade 12 with educational videos.

“The objective of the Madrasa is to become the number one reference for all Arab students in the world. The 5,000 videos we have online is just the beginning, we have big ambitions. Today in the Arab world there are 50 million students. We want to reach everyone who is willing to learn.”
