Performers in Abu Dhabi will pay tribute to the late African-American activist and poet Maya Angelou with a creative reading session at twofour54 tonight.

The advertising agency BrandMoxie and the social group Black Culture Experience in Abu Dhabi have organised a poetry reading session of Angelou’s writings and live music in honour of the icon who died at the age of 86 on May 28 this year.

Angelou wrote a series of seven autobiographies, the first one titled I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings in 1969. She was an actor, writer and director of plays and movies. She also was an activist during the Civil Rights movement, working alongside Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X.

The performance will take place at the BrandMoxie office at twofour54, Park Rotana Complex, from 6pm to 8pm.

Light refreshments will be served. To reserve a seat, call 02 491 8624 or email vera@brandmoxie.com.
