A brush with the Russian avant-garde
From 1910 to 1920, the Russian avant-garde reached its zenith. New artistic schools emerged at a rapid pace and all competed with each other through extremely diverse artworks. At this exhibition in Vienna, 130 pieces are on display, from masters such as Kazimir Malevich, Marc Chagall, Natalia Goncharova and Mikhail Larionov. It also charts the avant-garde's progression from primitivism – which celebrated cultures outside of the West – to suprematism, a geometric movement as seen in the work of Malevich. Chagall to Malevich: the Russian Avant-Gardes runs at the Albertina until June 26. For more information visit www.albertina.at.
