Lou Diamond Phillips has taken on the lead role in an Australian production of the King and I.
The La Bamba star will portray the king, replacing Jason Scott Lee who pulled out because of a torn calf muscle.
Philips is no stranger to the king, having essayed the role more than 500 times on Broadway productions from 1996.
“I am honoured to once again inhabit the role of the king,” he stated. “I have great passion and respect for the role and am especially excited to bring my interpretation to a new continent.”
The production is presently playing at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne.
