The Tower of London moat has turned red as some 888,246 ceramic poppies are planted in memory of the British and Commonwealth dead from World War One. August 4, 2014 marks 100 years since Britain declared war on Germany. The year 2014 sees the 100th anniversary of the beginning of WWI, or the Great War, which according to official statistics cost more than 37 million military and civilian casualties between 1914 and 1918.
