Zayn Malik thankful for fan support
Former One Direction star Zayn Malik has thanked fans for their messages of support after he cancelled his performance at London's Capital Summertime Ball at the last moment on Saturday because of "the worst anxiety of my career". He wrote on Twitter: "Thank you for your kind messages of support. It means a lot." His girlfriend, Gigi Hadad posted her support for the singer, writing: "I've seen the battles you go through and the way you fight to get to a place that allows you to get up there for your fans. Your bravery in those times makes me proud, but your honesty last night proved what you're all about, being real." A day earlier, Malik posted a message that read: "I flew into the UK last night to appear in my home country in front of my family, friends, and most importantly my UK fans. Unfortunately, my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me ... I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career." Malik, whose first solo single – Pillow Talk – hit number one on the Billboard charts, continued: "I cannot apologise enough but I want to be honest with everyone who has patiently waited to see me. I promise I will do my best to make this up to everybody I've let down today." – The National
EA announces three new Star Wars games
Video games publisher Electronic Arts has teased three new games set in the Star Wars universe. They include a new edition of Star Wars Battlefront inspired by the recent films from DICE and Motive Studios; an action-adventure game with an original story from Visceral Games; and a third-person action game from Respawn Entertainment. EA stopped short of revealing more information or the new games' titles, but a promotional video screened at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles showed Respawn developers working with motion-capture actors who were duelling with lightsabres. The video also featured imagery of a game developer using a PlayStation VR to pilot a virtual version of an X-Wing vessel. Other games EA hyped during its one-hour news conference included Titanfall 2; the World War I-set shooter Battlefield 1; the story-focused football simulator Fifa 17; and the space-exploration sequel Mass Effect: Andromeda, which is set in an all-new realm. E3, The annual gathering of the game industry, kicked off on Sunday and runs until Thursday. – AP
