Hot on the trail of Jackie Chan at Dubai Studio City

There was a lot of activity at Dubai Studio City's soundstages yesterday, the first advertised day of filming for Jackie Chan's latest movie, Kung Fu Yoga, which will be shooting in the city until the end of next month.

Lines of lorries were parked behind the high walls, while a steady flow of traffic passed through the security gates. Could this be where the first scenes for the film were being shot?

Although the official announcement from Dubai Film and TV Commission stated that filming would start yesterday, our own investigations suggest that the film has actually been shooting in the city since Saturday, and that Chan flew in a few days ago. DFTC’s announcement about scenes featuring some well-known Dubai landmarks suggest possible starring roles for Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab.

We can also expect to see a car chase filmed on The Boulevard in Downtown Dubai, according to previous reports from production sources.

Some soundstage shooting seems inevitable, especially over the course of a shoot lasting more than a month.

One of the gates at Dubai Studio City was signposted for “extras” – unfortunately, our attempts to get a closer look behind the scenes were deflected by security staff, who declined to reveal anything about what was shooting.
