Home improvements: Use leftover bubble wrap to make art

What do you do if you have leftover bubble wrap, an abundance of paint and a home full of bored kids? Take to your garden and make art. You’ll need a large roll of construction paper, tape, paper plates, scissors, bubble wrap, paint and a pair of feet.

First, if the bubble wrap is in large sheets, cut it into smaller squares, so it’s manageable, but large enough to fit round the children’s feet. Next, wrap a single square of bubble wrap round each foot, with the bubbles on the outside. Secure with tape. To minimise mess, unroll a long sheet of construction paper across your lawn or driveway. Squeeze paint colours of your choice onto a paper plate and allow the children to dip the bottoms of their feet into the paint. It’s best to do this while they’re sitting down near the sheet of paper to avoid getting paint everywhere. Once dipped, let them walk, stomp, run or slide over the paper.

Alternatively, squeeze paint in different designs onto a small section of the paper. Lay a sheet of bubble wrap over the paint and let your child stomp on top of it. Not only will this expend an impressive amount of energy, but it’ll result in cool designs.
