Home improvements: Be prepared for rain

On the off-chance that there’s more rain on the UAE horizon, here are some ways to make sure you and your home are prepared.

Make sure any electrical switches and cables on your balcony are kept dry or covered, to stop moisture from seeping in. This will also reduce the possibility of electric shocks.

Watch out for the mud and dirt that you, your family and guests might track into the house. Keep doormats ready, and place a small rack near your front door where people can store their shoes.

Years of exposure to the sun, followed by the heavy spells of rain, can make the exterior of your home look dull and stained. Touching up the paint job at least once every five years can keep your house looking in top shape. This will also help minimise exterior damage by the elements.

When the rain comes, the roads inevitably flood. Make sure your vehicle is in safe driving condition. Make sure the treads of the tyres are at least 3 to 4 millimetres deep. Anything less could cause your car to skid.
