Guns n’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke to perform at Dubai’s Music Room

Former Guns n’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke is to perform in the UAE. The 52-year-old rocker will play at Dubai’s Music Room on December 11.

Sound like old news? You’re getting Clarke confused with Bumblefoot, the OTHER Gn’R six-string slinger who has proved a regular visitor to the UAE.

Clarke joined joined Gn'R in 1991, replacing founder Izzy Stradlin to play rhythm guitar alongside Slash and the classic line-up, in stadiums across the globe throughout the epic, 30-month Use Your Illusion tour.

He quit in 1995, and went on to play with members of Metallica and Mötley Crüe in supergroup Rock Star Supernova, as well as backing MC5, Heart, Nancy Sinatra and his former bandmate in Slash’s Snakepit.

He also released six solo albums – which we’re likely to hear plenty of in Dubai.

For the record, Bumblefoot – who has also played The Music Room, as well Dubai venues The Fridge and Hard Rock Café – meanwhile joined the newer incarnation of Guns (in which singer Axl Rose is the only founding member...) in 2006. He was one of two lead guitarists (three in total), alongside DJ Ashba, brought in to cop Slash’s iconic parts.

Still confused? You’re forgiven – a total of ten different guitarists have been a member of Guns n’ Roses at one time or another.

The one with the top hat that everyone remembers – Slash himself – played Dubai Tennis Stadium as a solo artist in 2013.

Still, rumours abound that despite the fact he and Axl refuse to talk, the “classic” line-up will reunite in 2017 to mark 30 years since classic debut Appetite for Destruction. They’d be no shortage of cash in such a move.

If such talks are underway, one would guess no one’s called Clarke yet – or why else would he be gigging solo in Dubai?

Gilby Clarke will play at The Music Room, Majestic Hotel Tower, Bur Dubai, on Friday December 11. Tickets Dh100 in advance.
