Alden Ehrenreich will play young Han Solo in the forthcoming Star Wars spin off film, due in cinemas in December 2018, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Hail Caesar star was believed to be on a shortlist that also included Kingsman: The Secret Service's Taron Egerton and Transformers: Age of Extinction's Jack Reynor. The industry publication claims that Ehreneich has won the three-way battle to take over the role from Harrison Ford and is now in final negotiations with producers having just wrapped shooting Iraqi war drama The Yellow Birds with Tye Sheridan and Jennifer Aniston. Star Wars producer Disney has so far declined to comment on the claims. — The National

Axl Rose to replace AC/DC lead singer

Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose will make his debut with AC/DC at a concert in Lisbon tonight, standing in for lead singer Brian Johnson on the veteran Australian rock band's world tour. AC/DC had to reschedule dates on the US leg of the Rock or Bust tour in March after Johnson, 68, was advised by doctors to stop touring "or risk total hearing loss". Rose was announced as a replacement a month later. Johnson, who has fronted the group since the 1980 death of original lead singer Bon Scott, has said he was "personally crushed" to give up the tour but vowed he was not retiring. "It's a horrible thing and the hope (is) that it gets better," Rose said in a video statement. "I'm not dancing around about this because it's not like ... OK somebody's said they're going to go do something else, it's because of an unfortunate circumstance and that's something I'm very aware of."– Reuters

I know this: I can make calls, and my assistant put all my jazz records on it. It used to be when I would go out of town and I'd practice the clarinet, I was always schlepping a lot of vinyl recordings from city to city." He added that he has "never emailed anybody". – IANS

Why it pays to compare

A comparison of sending Dh20,000 from the UAE using two different routes at the same time - the first direct from a UAE bank to a bank in Germany, and the second from the same UAE bank via an online platform to Germany - found key differences in cost and speed. The transfers were both initiated on January 30.

Route 1: bank transfer

The UAE bank charged Dh152.25 for the Dh20,000 transfer. On top of that, their exchange rate margin added a difference of around Dh415, compared with the mid-market rate.

Total cost: Dh567.25 - around 2.9 per cent of the total amount

Total received: €4,670.30

Route 2: online platform

The UAE bank’s charge for sending Dh20,000 to a UK dirham-denominated account was Dh2.10. The exchange rate margin cost was Dh60, plus a Dh12 fee.

Total cost: Dh74.10, around 0.4 per cent of the transaction

Total received: €4,756

The UAE bank transfer was far quicker – around two to three working days, while the online platform took around four to five days, but was considerably cheaper. In the online platform transfer, the funds were also exposed to currency risk during the period it took for them to arrive.
