The duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler proved such a success at hosting the Golden Globes in January that they’ve been signed up for the same job for the next two years. Their unusual two-year commitment was announced on Tuesday. They were bathed in critical love for their performance this year, with the Associated Press critic Frazier Moore calling them “the night’s biggest winners”. “Last year was really fun,” Poehler said in an interview. “We didn’t know what to expect. It was exciting to work with Tina, as always, and it was a strange experience. We had a lot of fun so we said maybe we can try it again and like fools we are giving it another shot.” The next Golden Globes will be held on January 12.
Tamil and Telugu remakes likely for Mickey Virus
The Bollywood film Mickey Virus has not even been released in cinemas yet, but negotiations are already in progress for the movie’s Tamil and Telugu remakes. “We have been contacted by a number of parties from down south for Mickey Virus. We are negotiating the remake, merchandising and gaming rights with a few of them. We will take a call once the film releases,” said the movie’s producer Vivek Rangachari of Dar Motion Pictures. Directed by Saurabh Varma, the comedy thriller features the actor Manish Paul. It is scheduled for release in cinemas next week. — IANS
Kutcher and Cryer highest paid TV actors
Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer, the stars of Two and a Half Men, are the highest-paid actors on US television during the past year, according to Forbes magazine. Kutcher, the 35-year-old actor who replaced Charlie Sheen after he left the hit TV show in 2011, topped the list for the second consecutive year with US$24 million (Dh88m), but Cryer was not far behind with $21m. Ray Romano, whose show Everybody Loves Raymond ended eight years ago, placed third on the list with $16m, most of which comes from syndication of the series. Neil Patrick Harris of How I Met Your Mother debuted on the list, sharing the fourth spot with Mark Harmon of NCIS at $15m. Prakash Jha making Gangaajal prequel
A decade after the release of his action drama Gangaajal, the veteran Indian filmmaker Prakash Jha announced he is writing a prequel to the 2003 movie. Jha, 61, says he wants the actor Ajay Devgn to reprise his role as Amit Kumar, a police officer battling a corrupt system. According to reports, Jha had discussed the idea of a prequel with Devgn while they were filming the recent movie Satyagraha. The 44-year-old actor Devgn is currently filming Prabhu Deva’s next project Action Jackson. — IANS
Stephen Frears to start shooting Armstrong biopic
Stephen Frears will this week start shooting his biopic of the cyclist Lance Armstrong. Filming of the as-yet-untitled movie will begin on Friday in the French Alps, with other locations including the northeastern Ardennes region and Britain, the French newspaper Le Parisien said. The British actor Ben Foster will play the disgraced Armstrong, who has been banned for life from the sport for taking performance-enhancing drugs. — AFP
Woody Allen’s new film: Magic in the Moonlight
Woody Allen has given his next film a name. Continuing his European intrigue, Magic in the Moonlight is set in southern France and stars Colin Firth, Emma Stone, Eileen Atkins and Marcia Gay Harden. Allen has delivered a full-length feature every year since 1982. Magic in the Moonlight marks his 49th time in the director’s chair and his first time casting both Firth and Stone.
