The Avengers boosts shawarma sales

As you're all probably aware by now, The Avengers is well on its way to smashing every known record on the planet, no doubt including Usain Bolt's 100 metres title and the World's Tallest Tower crown from our very own Burj Khalifa. But there has another consequence of the Superhero blockbuster that probably wasn't anticipated - increased shawarma sales.

If you've seen the film, then you'll probably remember the bit at the end when Robert Downey Jnr professes his desire to try a shawarma, and then a bit after the credits where they're all seen eating one (if you stayed that long). It's an odd scene, and is likely to have had many of us in the Middle East wondering if some sort of sponsorship deal had been signed between Marvel and our beloved snack.

In the US, however, the scene reportedly had many viewers leaving the cinema and heading straight to their nearest shawarma shop, or at least questioning where one might be.

According to TMZ, a Lebanese joint in Hollywood saw shawarma sales rocket 80 per cent the day after the film launched, and there have been reports of a similar jump in interest across North America.

For The Avengers 2, perhaps it's time that fattoush got involved...
