Filming for the second season of the Emirati hit series The Platform has begun.

The Arabic show is being produced by Filmgate Productions in collaboration with Al Kalema Productions, both based in the UAE. It is being shot in various locations around Abu Dhabi, including a studio in the Khalifa Industrial Zone, where the scenes in the show's fictional Arab city are filmed.

With its high-octane plot, taking viewers to the frontlines of cyber warfare and into the underbelly of a terrorist cell, The Platform was quick to become one of Netflix's most watched Arabic shows when the first season debuted in September.

The series – which marks the first Emirati production to get a worldwide release on Netflix – follows the story of Karam, a genius programmer working to leak classified information to the public through an online portal. However, he soon faces trouble as a number of groups from around the world – including a terrorist cell associated with his father – try to stop him.

The show stars some high-profile actors from the Arab world, including Maxim Khalil, Abdulmohsen Alnemr, Salloum Haddad, Leen Gherra, Khaled Alkeesh, and Mahira Abdelaziz.

While many of them are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming season, a number of new names are also set to join the cast list. Filmgate Productions has remained tight lipped on who those actors are.

However, we do know that Egyptian director Yasser Samy has joined the team, teaming up with Syrian writer and creator Hozan Akko, Emirati director and producer Mansoor Al Dhaheri, and Tunisian executive producer Hedi Karnit.

It's too early to know when the new season will come out as the news will likely be released when the show moves closer to post-production. However, we have been told that the upcoming season will be even more gripping and action-filled, with plenty of twists and turns.

"The success of The Platform is owed to the spectacular spirit of teamwork amongst some of the most talented people in the industry," Al Dhaheri said. "We are excited to begin filming the second season, as the story will only get more intriguing from here on. We also have a few surprises in store in terms of new cast members, so stay tuned."

Iran has sent five planeloads of food to Qatar, which is suffering shortages amid a regional blockade.

A number of nations, including Iran's major rival Saudi Arabia, last week cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of funding terrorism, charges it denies.

The land border with Saudi Arabia, through which 40% of Qatar's food comes, has been closed.

Meanwhile, mediators Kuwait said that Qatar was ready to listen to the "qualms" of its neighbours.

Farage on Muslim Brotherhood

Nigel Farage told Reform's annual conference that the party will proscribe the Muslim Brotherhood if he becomes Prime Minister.
"We will stop dangerous organisations with links to terrorism operating in our country," he said. "Quite why we've been so gutless about this – both Labour and Conservative – I don't know.
“All across the Middle East, countries have banned and proscribed the Muslim Brotherhood as a dangerous organisation. We will do the very same.”
It is 10 years since a ground-breaking report into the Muslim Brotherhood by Sir John Jenkins.
Among the former diplomat's findings was an assessment that “the use of extreme violence in the pursuit of the perfect Islamic society” has “never been institutionally disowned” by the movement.
The prime minister at the time, David Cameron, who commissioned the report, said membership or association with the Muslim Brotherhood was a "possible indicator of extremism" but it would not be banned.
