Big Little Lies has won eight Emmys and taken home four Golden Globes, but executive producers Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are not resting on their laurels.
In a casting coup for season two, Meryl Streep - the performer with the most Academy Award nominations, 21 to be exact - will play Mary Louise Wright.
Her character is the mother-in-law of Celeste Wright (played by Nicole Kidman) - so yes, Alexander Skarsgaard’s Perry from season one is Streep’s on-screen son.

HBO said Streep’s character arrives in the town of Monterey “searching for answers” and worried about her grandsons. Anyone who has seen the first season will know what she seeks answers about, but we’ll avoid going into that further to keep this spoiler free.
This is an interesting move for Streep, 68, who is very much a movie star: she has only appeared in the occasional miniseries and has guest-starred in a handful of TV shows (including Lisa Kudrow's Web Therapy).
“Monterey better watch out!” Witherspoon wrote on Instagram when announcing Streep’s casting.
Kidman and Witherspoon have both confirmed that they will return to the show for season two, and reports suggest Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz will as well.
We’re also hoping that the excellent Laura Dern will come back for more.
Big Little Lies season two was confirmed in December last year, and according to IMDb it will air at some point in 2018. We'll keep you updated.
