Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye is to get his own series on the forthcoming Disney+ streaming service, according to Variety.
The industry magazine claims that Disney’s upcoming service is developing a limited series based on the archery ace Marvel character with Renner to return to the role he has previously played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The project is said to be an adventure series in which Clint Barton, also known as Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop. Bishop is a Marvel Comics character who took up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton. She is also a member of the Young Avengers.
Disney, Marvel and Renner’s representatives have all declined to comment on the announcement.
Renner has been a part of the MCU since he first appeared as Hawkeye in 2011's Thor. He has since reprised the role in numerous MCU movies, and will appear in Avengers: Endgame, which hits UAE theatres on April 24. Renner is also known for his Oscar-nominated roles in The Hurt Locker and The Town.
Other MCU properties that are expected to get the series treatment on Disney+ include Falcon, Winter Soldier, Loki, Vision and Scarlet Witch. Netflix previously had its own Marvel TV universe, consisting of the shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher. However, with the imminent launch of Disney+, all of those shows have recently been cancelled.
