Another Christmas comes, another new incarnation of The Doctor arrives, and last night, fans of the long running sci-fi show saw the Twelfth Doctor (played by Peter Capaldi) regenerate into the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker).
In a historical moment for the show, with Whittaker's debut, the first female Time Lord made its appearance. Even though it was announced earlier in the year that she was taking over, there were some pretty positive fresh reactions on social media:
There were those who expressed how much they would miss Capaldi:
The Twelfth Doctor, I let you go.

But I will return, for with your goodbye, I think you became my favorite.
Kudos @DoctorWho_BBCA & Peter Capaldi for a fantastic regeneration. #doctorwho pic.twitter.com/Hs4J188Yck
I laughed. I cried (a lot). And I loved it. I'm heartbroken but it was a fitting, beautiful farewell for #PeterCapaldi. Thank you #DoctorWho pic.twitter.com/18g2q2Zlsp

Oh god they’ve came back and introduced #JodieWhittaker with the Bad Wolf theme in the background. Well played.
After all, isn't it time for a change - even in the Whovian universe?

Because even after over 800 episodes, sometimes it's good to have a little representation:
The sheer joy and happiness I felt by Jodie Whitaker's first appearance as the first female Doctor only goes to show how important female representation is AND how far we have to go. So excited for 13! #DoctorWho pic.twitter.com/QnIRGgdDMG

Kept the secret of the new doctor from my daughter so the Doctor’s regeneration was the 1st she’s seeing the #13thdoctor . I love her smile when I confirm 2 her that the #newDoctorWho is female! #representationmatters #DoctorWho @bbcdoctorwho #JodieWhittaker pic.twitter.com/7V8f3PHSRR

While the episode ended in a cliffhanger, fans will have to wait for a while as the new season won't air until late in 2018 on BBC One and BBC America.
For those who want to see the regeneration, here it is:
