Jagger apologised directly to fans on Twitter and Instagram, saying he was 'devastated'

The Rolling Stones have postponed their latest tour so Mick Jagger can receive medical treatment. AP 

The Rolling Stones are cancelling the remainder of their No Filter tour as Mick Jagger undergoes medical treatment.

The band announced the news of 75-year-old Jagger's illness in a statement on Sunday, but did not specify what kind of illness the singer was being treated for.

"Mick has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment," the statement said.

"The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible. "

Jagger then apologised to fans via his personal social media accounts, saying on Twitter and Facebook that he was "devastated".

"I'm so sorry to all our fans in America and Canada with tickets. I really hate letting you down like this. I'm devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can."

The European leg of the tour began in September 2017 in Hamburg, Germany, and finished in Warsaw, Poland on July 8, 2018. The North American stint was announced in November 2018, and was due to kick off in Miami on April 20, before travelling across the United States for 17 shows and finishing up in Oro-Medonte, Canada on 29 June.

Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood tweeted to fans soon after, saying "here's to Mick".

"We'll miss you over the next few weeks, but we're looking forward to seeing you all again very soon," he wrote.

The band have told concertgoers with tickets to keep hold of them, as they would be announcing rescheduled dates soon.
