The Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has undergone surgery after he injured his shoulder while doing stunts for his forthcoming film Chennai Express. Sanjay Desai, his doctor, said the surgery, held in a Mumbai hospital on Tuesday, was successful but the actor needs to rest for at least two months. Khan, 47, refused to use body doubles for his action sequences in the movie. He is expected to leave hospital this weekend. Chennai Express will be out on August 8. – AP
Akshay Kumar is “incredible”
The Bollywood newcomer Aditi Rao Hydari says her co-star Akshay Kumar is an "incredible actor". The actress, who got her break last year with the film London, Paris, New York, recently finished filming Anthony D'Souza's Boss with Kumar. Hydari says she was honoured to work with Kumar. "I am very inspired by the way Akshay works and feel privileged to be a part of his production house and film," she said. – IANS
Film producer misses jailed Sanjay Dutt
The actor Sanjay Dutt will be seen in his first film after beginning his three-and-a-half-year prison term for his role in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. Dutt, who is in Yerawada Central Jail in the city of Pune, finished filming the cop drama Policegiri before turning himself in. His producer Rahul Aggarwal said he missed the actor during the film's launch on Monday. "The feeling is very incomplete. Throughout the film, Sanjay was with me. It feels like a piece of my heart is missing. We are incomplete. He should have been here," said Aggarwal. – IANS
Ekta Kapoor makes historical TV drama
Ekta Kapoor, who runs Balaji Telefilms, the largest television house in South-east Asia, says she will produce a historical saga that is a change from her usual political and horror shows. Jodha Akbar is a 16th-century love story about a marriage of political convenience between Akbar, a Mughal emperor, and Jodha, a Hindu princess. Rajat Tokas, who will take on the role of Akbar, says the show will be a welcome change, and compared watching his show with eating biryani instead of dal (lentils). "My show is like biryani," he joked, indicating it was the superior choice. – IANS
Documentary on modern Kolkata
A German team of documentary filmmakers has taken on the task of telling the story of the eastern Indian city of Kolkata. The Berlin-based photographer Malte Pietschmann and his team have been in Kolkata since October, filming a documentary that would "take a closer look" at the metropolis. He said that the city's presence in the international media was underrated, especially compared with Mumbai or New Delhi, and that Kolkata is a cultural hub. "What has happened to India's former cultural capital? What socio-cultural movements are taking place here and how does it affect that status quo? This is what my film sets out to explore," said Pietschmann, who refused to elaborate further on the story. – IANS
