Club Social returns bigger and better this month.

It started last year as a minor lifestyle festival focusing on beach sports and food, but the second edition returns to Yas Beach with an expanded line-up. This includes live performances by musical acts Bastille and Oka Wi Ortega.

The British rockers Bastille will take the main-stage on March 29. The following night will see the energetic Egyptian duo Oka Wi Ortega bring their blend of electro-shaabi tunes to the capital.

The music

With hits Pompeii, Happier and Of the Night, Bastille are renowned for a high-energy concert experience.

Speaking to The National back in 2015, the group's multi-instrumentalist Kyle Simmons said that he was "very proud of our live shows… We have got to a stage that when we are live, we pretty much know what we are doing."

Meanwhile, Oka Wi Ortega is part of the latest trend of young shaabi artists emerging from Egypt who blend their playful folk songs with exuberant lashings of electro and dance music. Their zany 2017 single Ellab Yallah has been a club and party hit across the Arab world.

While the festival is free, both concerts are ticketed affairs.

For the family

Club Social’s original lifestyle focus has not been lost in the mix. For the health-conscious, you should check out the calorie-burning beachside boxing sessions being organised by Abu Dhabi’s Punch Studio. Those who want their cardio classes with some rhythm should check out the capoeira, hip-hop and Zumba fitness classes that are being held during the weekend.

On the family front, children will have a lot to enjoy, from art classes to a teepee park and an area reserved just for sandcastle-making. Meanwhile, the whole family can chill on a range of colourful floaties available from the ‘floatie fair’.

The family atmosphere will extend until sunset, after which the festival becomes an adults-only beachside experience.

Club social runs on March 29 and 30 at Yas Beach, Yas Island. Tickets for Bastille on March 29 are Dh195. Tickets for Oka Wi Ortega on March 30 are Dh95, from www.ticketmaster.ae
