Egyptian pop star Amr Diab is set to return for a massive outdoor concert at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre next year.
In what has become an annual tradition, the much-loved singer will once again return to the venue to play all the hits in what should be a clear winter’s nights. The concert will be held on Friday, January 20.
If you plan to attend, don't worry too much about the cool temperatures. Diab's concerts are often high energy affairs with the crowd dancing along throughout his regular two hour sets.
What will make next year’s gig standout, however, is that Diab will come to Dubai with a handful of new songs.
At present, the 57-year-old Diab is preparing the release of what will be his staggering 33rd album Ana Gheir. Judging by the new songs released from the project, such as Bahebo (I Love him) and the album's title track, it looks like Diab is moving away from the modern pop styles of recent releases and going back to the Mediterranean folk sounds of old.
Once again, Diab searched wide for collaborators for Ana Gheir. In addition to producer Osama Al Hindi, it has been reported that composers Nader Abdulla, Tamer Hussein, Ayman Baghat and Amr Mostafa have all lent their song-writing talents to the new album.
Diab's last performance in the UAE was a free New Year's Eve concert at Abu Dhabi's Al Maryah Island in 2018. Thousands of people attended to watch Diab ring in the year with a greatest hit set that culminated with a spectacular fireworks display.
