Akon and Turbo B will ring in the New Year in Abu Dhabi.

Both rappers will perform minutes away from each other at separate New Year’s Eve parties on Yas Island.

Akon will take the stage at Mad on Sunday night with Turbo B on the mic at Iris.

When it comes to Turbo B, the 50-year-old American - real name Durron Butler - reached the peak of his fame in the early 90's as part of the Euro-pop duo Snap!. His hefty rapping can be heard in the group's biggest hits including The Power and Rhythm is a Dancer – the latter is home to undoubtedly one of the most suspect rhymes in pop-music: "I am as serious as cancer, when I say rhythm is a dancer."

Ever since leaving Snap! in 1992, Turbo B attempted to launch a solo career with little joy.

After his debut album, 1993's Make Way for the Maniac, failed to gain attention, he formed Centory a year later and the pop group found some success across Europe. With Snap! touring regularly on 90's nostalgia pop tours, Turbo B is also a fixture of vintage hip-hop shows, having performed with the likes of MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice.

Meanwhile, Akon continues to maintain a high profile despite having not released a solo album for nearly a decade. The main reason being his regular appearances as a guest vocalist on hit singles, the latest of which is this year's dance track Yes with Dutch DJ Sam Feldt.

With a strong back catalogue of club favourites including Smack That, Locked Up and Lonely, the 44-year-old Senegalese American will surely keep the crowd entertained into the New Year.

Akon will also perform on December 30 at White Dubai at Meydan Racecourse.
