Four — that’s how many mouse clicks it takes to post a photo to Twitter. However, it’s a process that seems to have been lost on the president of the United States, Donald Trump.
The prolific tweeter — who boasts 53.7 million followers on his personal account (@realDonaldTrump) and 24.9 million followers on the official presidential account (@potus) — sent out a message on Sunday, describing a beautiful vista that had befallen him.
“Wish I could share with everyone the beauty and majesty of being in the White House and looking outside at the snow filled lawns and Rose Garden,” the businessman-turned-politician posted, as the US government’s shutdown rolled into day 23 — the longest in American history. “Really is something — SPECIAL COUNTRY, SPECIAL PLACE!”
A large snowstorm moved into the mid-Atlantic on Saturday, affecting cities including Washington, DC, with temperatures plummeting as low at -6°C.
However, despite the visually evocative nature of his message, the 45th president of the US failed to share a snapshot of said view with his followers. Enter the 72-year-old’s wife, Melania Trump, who came to the rescue just minutes later.

The Slovenian-born first lady uploaded two images of the presidential residence’s grounds, alongside several snowflake emojis. One showed a blanketed lawn, with the Washington Monument in the distance, while the other captured the West Wing, where the Oval office is situated.
The storm, which drifted over Washington from the Midwest, has resulted in the cancellation of flights, the disruption of public transport, and the closing of federal offices.
Melania’s images were retweeted by the White House Twitter account, but not by her husband. Despite dropping the ball on this occasion, President Trump appears to be well-versed in the art of uploading images to the social media platform, having shared several video clips and photos in recent days. Those who wish for a more visible look inside like at the White House may instead need to follow his wife.
