Reel Cinemas, operated by Emaar Entertainment, has announced the launch of its drive-in cinema at The Dubai Mall, starting from Saturday, May 30. Located at the rooftop parking space of the mall's Zabeel extension, the new cinema experience will allow moviegoers in Dubai to watch films on the big screen while parked in their cars and hear them by tuning in to a set FM frequency. This isn't the first drive-in cinema to open in Dubai in recent weeks. Earlier in May, Vox launched its own version at Mall of the Emirates. This comes as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, as drive-in cinemas offer movie lovers a safe way to watch films while adhering to social distancing rules and guidelines. Safety measures at Reel Cinemas include allocating specific spaces where the cars can be parked, allowing only two people per car and ticket-booking via the website or app rather than in person. Tickets cost Dh170 per car, including a food and beverage package for two people, which would consist of one cheese popcorn, one salted popcorn, one regular nachos, two chocolate bars, two soft drinks and two water bottles. Food carts will also be available for those who wish to make additional orders. Reel Cinemas plans to screen a number of films, including: Bombshell, Jumanji Next Level, A Quiet Place, Mission Impossible Fallout, Knives Out, Aqua Man, The Grudge, Charlie's Angels and Shazam!. More information is at reelcinemas.ae
