Juhi Chawla to star with Helen Mirren In Hollywood film
The Bollywood actor Juhi Chawla has signed her first Hollywood film. The Hundred Foot Journey, based on the book by Richard C Morais, is being directed by Lasse Hallström and produced by Steven Spielberg. The film revolves around an Indian family in a small village in France, where they run an Indian restaurant opposite a French one, owned by Madame Mallory, played by Helen Mirren. The film will be out next year and also features the Indian actor Om Puri. – The National staff
Sharmila Tagore: Men dominate the Hindi film industry
The veteran actress Sharmila Tagore says that while scripts are being specially written for older actors such as Amitabh Bachchan and Naseeruddin Shah, there are no roles for ageing actresses in Bollywood, PTI reports. "It's not uncommon to see heroes in their late 40s romancing women just out of their teenagers, but the opposite is rarely the case," Tagore said. The actress began her career as a child actor in Satyajit Ray's 1959 Bengali film Apur Sansar. Her son Saif Ali Khan and daughter Soha Ali Khan are actors, too. – The National staff
New film on Mumbai don
The filmmaker Gaurav Bavdankar is making a biopic of Mumbai's resident don Arun Gawli, who is currently serving a life sentence for murder. The movie will be based on how he became a gangster, The Times of India reported. "We have an agreement signed by the Gawli family and the rights are with us for the next three years," Bavdankar said. "We are considering Nawazuddin Siddiqui for the role.
