Mumbai's traffic police have launched a #HonkResponsibly campaign to address the city's noise pollution, and Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan has lent his support.
"You cannot dream of peace with decibel at peak. Patience is the solution to our chaos. As a proud Mumbaikar, I volunteer to minimise noise pollution," the War star wrote on Twitter, along with screen grabs of a longer message that he had typed out.
"We assume that other people in traffic are not as much in a hurry as us. Which is certainly incorrect," he said. "Blowing that horn has become a kind of mindless venting of all our daily irritations and frustrations, it gives us some kind of satisfaction that we are letting off some steam. It actually does the opposite. The noise only aggravates all that pend up irritation inside. It does not HELP it."

He made it clear at the end of his message that he was posting as an "impacted citizen", not as part of a "tie up or endorsement."
His post was then followed up by retweeting a Mumbai Police video about the campaign, describing it as a "brilliant initiative".

The Punishing Signal campaign works using decibel metres which have been attached to traffic poles around the city. If the decibel levels go over 85dB the signal resets and stays red for longer, thus "punishing" the noisy offenders.
The initiative has a concise "honk more, wait more" slogan.
