Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has been discharged from hospital after testing negative for Covid-19.

Abhishek is the last member of his famous family to recover from the coronavirus, which also hospitalised his father, Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan, 77, wife Aishwarya Rai, and 8-year-old daughter Aaradhya.

Abhishek’s recovery was first shared by his father, who tweeted thanks to people for their well wishes and prayers.

Later Abhishek shared his own thanks, along with a picture of his hospital chart detailing his negative diagnosis.

“A promise is a promise! This afternoon I tested Covid-19 NEGATIVE! I told you guys I'd beat this. Thank you all for your prayers for me and my family. My eternal gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at Nanavati hospital for all that they have done. THANK YOU!" he tweeted.

The Bachchan family were among the most high-profile confirmed cases of the coronavirus in India, which has recorded more than 2.1 million cases of the virus and 43,000 deaths.

Last week, fans were celebrating the release of Amitabh Bachchan, known as "Big B" from hospital after a 23-day stay.

Hundreds of fans gathered at Amitabh Bachchan Temple in Kolkata last Sunday. It was built by his fans in the city in 2001 and has a life-sized statue of the celebrity.

"I have tested Covid negative, have been discharged," the actor, tweeted on August 2. "I am back home in solitary quarantine. Grace of the Almighty, blessings of Ma Babuji, prayers and duas of near and dear friends and fans ... and the excellent care and nursing at Nanavati made it possible for me to see this day."
