Today is the last day of the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale. The National Pavilion of the UAE presented an exhibition titled Transformations: The Emirati National House curated by Yasser Elsheshtawy, an associate professor of architecture at UAE University in Al Ain. Through the exhibition Elsheshtawy explored the transformative aspect of the housing model of Emirati national homes, known as ‘Sha’abi’, or folk houses.
At The Art Blog, we worked in collaboration with the National Pavilion to produce a series of blogs from the young people who took part in the internship programme - where each spent a month in Venice manning the pavilion. The interns brought us reports from several of the other fascinating entries into the world-class exhibition.
As a way of marking the close of the event, here is a timelapse video made by Hayder Mahdi, one of the many creative minds on the internship programme.
