A photographic exhibition to raise awareness for the fight against malaria will go on display tonight at the Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi.

Including images from some of the countries with the highest number of malaria cases in the world such Nigeria, Uganda and Cambodia, Malaria: Blood, Sweat & Tears is an exhibition put together by photographer Adam Nadel in a bid to highlight the complex relationship between malaria and poverty, and the need for international support to combat the disease.

Hosted by the Roll Back Malaria Partnership (RBM) and the UAE Ministry of International Cooperation & Development, the show marks World Malaria Day, which passed on April 25.

Nadel’s images were first displayed in this exhibition on World Malaria Day 2010 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, in the presence of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon. Since then, the exhibition has been viewed by more than two million people all over the world to great public acclaim.

It will be officially inaugurated tonight by Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of International Cooperation & Development and Princess Astrid of Belgium, who is a special representative of RBM.

Sheikha Lubna says it underlines the UAE’s commitment to fight malaria and that it is really important to show the exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
