Eight young artists have been selected from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UK to travel to Japan for a cross-cultural arts encounter: tutoring in Butoh, a type of traditional Japanese performance; bonsai; and site visits with established Japanese artists.
The trip is organised by the Saudi-based Jameel Foundation and the UK charity Crossway, which aim to foster contemporary art in the Middle East.
The artists will travel to Japan next month, and have been selected from a field of hundreds. They are Sarah Abuabdallah, Mohammed Alfaraj, Najd Al Taher, Nour Flayhan, Mohamed Rowaizak, Mohammed Al Kindi, Gaby Sahhar and Hugh Guthrie, the only one of the eight to not have a Twitter handle.
Well done to the eight, and especially to Twitter hold-out Guthrie; we expect handwritten postcards.
