Yoda – the softly-spoken Jedi master from the Star Wars universe – has been recast as a warrior for peace in a new artwork which has gone viral online.
The striking street mural – revealed by Brazillian artist Eduardo Kobra in the midst of Art Basel Miami Beach – sees the fictional character re-imagined holding a traffic sign with the slogan “Stop Wars”, rendered in the iconic Star Wars font.
Kobra is well known on the street art scene for his extensive, colourful murals.
As marketing stunts go, this has proved a successful one: Shared by the artist on Instagram on December 4, it had attracted more than 13,000 likes within 48 hours. Shared by a “source” on Imgur a day later, it attracted more than two million views.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens receives a regional premiere at Abu Dhabi's Emirates Palace on December 16 – one day before general release – after large chunks of the movie were shot in the UAE.
