Sotheby's London will be launching their 2014 summer auction season by displaying a selection of masterpieces from the forthcoming June and July auctions. The exhibition, A History of Art in 10 Works, will be art historical tour that places ten of the greatest museum-quality works on view in the context of 2000 years of western art history.
Starting with the Renaissance and the High Renaissance in the 12th century, it then moves through to the Baroque with a piece by Bartolomeo Cavarozzi.
From the Enlightenment period there is an enamel clock from London circa 1790. Claude Monet’s Nymphéas represents Impressionism and a Piet Mondrian from 1927 highlights Abstraction. A Francis Bacon triptych and Andy Warhol’s Nine Multicoloured Marilyns are shown from the modern period and round off many centuries of art history.
