March is art season in Dubai, with Al Quoz’s galleries in a flurry during Art Week, and the 11th edition of Art Dubai running at the Madinat Jumeirah until Saturday.

Do make sure to also venture to Bur Dubai for the Gulf-focused Sikka Art Fair, which takes over the atmospheric Al Fahidi district on the Creek, aka Bastakiya, until Monday (the programme runs every evening from around 6pm to 10pm).

The artist-led fair is a platform for emerging UAE-based artists, as well as talent from around the GCC. Stroll through the narrow alleyways, and you will stumble across the Saudi House, which features the work of 20 artists from the Kingdom; as well as an exhibition, called Through Our Lens, of archival photos from Dubai Police. Meanwhile, the team at LOCO’Motion Dubai will present a programme of documentaries, shorts and feature films every night.

One of the more interactive corners is Icon Booth by Marta Lamovsek, where the artist will turn visitors into characters by using iconic MENA accessories and props. On a practical note, you can park at the multi-storey car park in the newly opened Al Seef, from which Dubai Culture is providing a free shuttle bus.
