Lebanese artist Marwan Chamaa is heralded as the region’s first pop artist. In his bright and colourful works he reappropriates vintage Western comic book covers as well vignettes from famous pieces by Roy Lichtenstein and uses lyrics from 1940’s - 1960’s Arabic love songs. He celebrates the beauty of Arabic poetry in a fun and approachable style.
Chagrin d’Amour – The Musical is Chamaa’s 2015 series and it is going on display at Dubai’s Opera Gallery this weekend.
The solo exhibition will be on view April 1-14 at the Opera Gallery, DIFC, Gate Village Building 3, Dubai.
