Armin Flossdorf’s art is back in the capital for another year to celebrate the annual Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Flossdorf, a German artist who specialises in painting F1 cars, has been in the UAE twice before for the big race. As an artist, he gained prominence when Bernie Ecclestone bought a painting of him with Ayrton Senna.

For the last 10 years, he has been fascinated with Formula 1 and the focus and the extreme pressure of the drivers, so he has dedicated his work to showing this within art.

He also paints with speed and without prior sketching, to mirror the pace of the motorsport. This means he is sometimes not sure what his subject will be before he starts the painting. “I have to find the right image, which in the beginning is as unclear to me as to the spectators,” he says. “The finished work is always different from the image I had before I start with my painting.”

His works will be exhibited in Le Royal Méridien Abu Dhabi from yesterday until next Tuesday and he will also be conducting live painting sessions during this time.

Shaun Parsons, the manager of Le Royal Méridien Abu Dhabi says: “ We welcome Armin back for another season and this is a great partnership we have during race season in Abu Dhabi. Art is one of the key passion points for Le Méridien hotels world wide and we are sure that our guests as well as public will love his creations as they are unique in terms of his style and creative process”
