Art Dubai came to a close yesterday but there was so much to see and write about that my coverage is still going. I just had to share with you images of this triptych, in case you didn’t spot it at Brigitte Schenk’s booth from Cologne. Schenk is a regular at Abu Dhabi Art but this was her first time exhibiting at Art Dubai and as well as some lovely works from UAE-based Tarek Al Ghoussein, she also exhibited these three wet plate collodion photographs taken by Halim Al Karim. At Abu Dhabi Art last November, she showed Karim’s life size handmade bellows camera to the public. The artist produced this camera to revive the 19th-century wet-collodion technique in his darkroom. These 140 x 100 cm plates are the first photographs taken with that camera to be exhibited and were a stand out part of the fair.
Schenk is a long-time supporter and collaborator of regional art projects and she is also the curator of the current Angela Bulloch exhibition in Sharjah Art Museum.
