Now that Abu Dhabi Art is underway, The Art Blog will bring a detailed look at some of the booths to give you an added insight during your visit.
The Park Gallery was founded in London in 1992 by Robin Start who had an interest in Orientalist art. This interest quickly developed into modern and then contemporary art from the Middle East and this is reflected in the gallery’s selection of art.
At Abu Dhabi Art he has quite a collection. There is a stunning piece from the master Paul Guiragossian, a Fateh Moudarres from the late 1950s after his stint living in Italy and a classic Louay Kayyali on his trademark chip board.
On the contemporary side there a large collection of works by Mustafa Anlas, a Turkish artist who uses calligraphy as his base but distills it to simple geometric forms and presents them in layers of card. Other highlights are a piece by Iraqi artist Hanaa Malallah and several works from Saudi Abdelaziz Ashour, who is best known for his use of newspaper as a medium.
* The Park Gallery is in booth C6 at Abu Dhabi Art, open from today until Saturday from 2-10pm. www.theparkgallery.com
