Regarding the story Shoppers complain of high parking fees at Al Wahda Mall (June 30), my question is this: why would you stay for more than three hours in Al Wahda Mall?
Victor Crainic, Abu Dhabi
If someone plans to stay for a long time in the mall, he or she would better take a taxi.
Gina Anaya, Abu Dhabi
Who else besides employees needs to be there in the mall longer than three or four hours?
Stacey Russell, Abu Dhabi
Be grateful it’s free for three hours. Life is changing. Wait until tax kicks in.
Sonu Massi, Abu Dhbai
In Amsterdam you will have to pay €10 per hour. There is no free parking at any point. So this is really not bad at all.

Teachers laid off for a reason
Abu Dhabi Education Council had some very out-of-touch teachers with poor skills (More than 340 teachers dismissed in Abu Dhabi, June 30). They were made redundant because they failed to improve even if they were offered training. They were stuck in old ways.
Carol Goodey, Abu Dhabi
I think that the teachers left because circumstances were terrible and children were too hard to handle. I heard many stories relating to teachers’ experience with children.

Educate on pet responsibility
Thank you for discussing the plight of stray animals (It does not take much to ease the suffering of stray animals, June 30). The biggest problem to tackle is people's ignorance.
There should be television campaigns to educate people on what having an animal means.
Bela Palma, Dubai
Please don't blame a fearful animal (Ajman residents fear packs of stray dogs, June 27). There would be no stray animals if the people who bred and purchased these animals remained responsible for them.
Please learn a little about how confident body language can help so you don’t need to be aggressive. If you have mercy in your heart, give them some water and even food.
I carry an old disposable container in my car and a bottle of water always. When I see any animal in distress I can give them a moment’s respite. You need not touch the animal. I’m sure it could be seen favourably.
Daniella How, Abu Dhabi
Pet stores should help with the thousands of abandoned pets and strays.
Owners should register all their pets with the authorities so that those animals can be linked to their passports and Emirates ID cards. That way abandonments and abuse of animals can be stopped. We need to enforce the animal welfare law and hold owners responsible for pet abuse. Animals suffer each day because of our greed.
It’s against the law as well as every religion to harm an animal. We need to educate the public on this. Let’s start this at school. I thank The National for raising this issue. We are their voice. Let’s all speak up for them.

Cats are not the problem; in fact those who dump their cats in the street are the problem (Hundreds of stray cats neutered in Dubai, June 29). People who breed and sell cats are the problem.
Stray cats control the rodent population which is responsible for all the diseases that this article has talked about. Yet, these stray cats are regularly put to sleep.
This Earth is not only for humans. Every creature has the right to live here.
