A sweet success

It's a feel-good story straight out of the comic books. A millionaire child who can look forward to a bright future where dreams come true and his family's financial worries are lifted. It seems that Dubai now has its very own Richie Rich.

As The National reported yesterday, Ebrahim Shaikh, 5, has won Dh1 million from the National Bonds draw for the month of February. He was eligible for the prize money thanks to the foresight of his father Fahimuddin who had opened a savings account in his name.

While his family will make sure the money is looked after and that their son concentrates on his school work, Ebrahim may be daydreaming about what toys to buy, the latest iPods available and, perhaps a little later, what investments will turn him into a little business tycoon.

How lucky for Ebrahim that he also seems to be blessed with such a humble and pragmatic father. As much as Dh800,000 of the prize money will be kept in bonds that will take care of Ebrahim's academic and career developments.

For now though, like all smart kids his age, the young millionaire knows where his priorities lie. "I want to buy candy and sweets with it," said Ebrahim. We trust the five-year-old's parents will be able to convince him that candy isn't the only sweet thing in life.
