The German missile non-crisis a good precedent

Glad to see there hasn't been a major hue and cry about the German supporters pelting Miguel Veloso and Nani with "missiles" last night.

Given all the edginess surrounding rather more significant fan issues at this tournament, a big deal could have been made over this. It would have been a storm in a teacup though.

It was like pelting bits of scrunched up paper around the classroom when your teacher had left the room: all good-natured, if puerile, fun. Nobody got hurt.

It did set one good precedent, though. Uefa officials obviously saw it happen, as an announcement was made over the PA immediately, asking people to desist from chucking things at the players on account of the fact it was "unsportsmanlike".

Which is good to know. So if anything more serious does emanate from the stands at any point in this tournament we can assume their eyes and ears will be open to it and there will be similarly swift action taken. Here is hoping.
