Newly appointed creative director Johnny Coca, formerly of Celine, has taken the quintessentially British brand Mulberry and infused its AW16 collection with a much-welcomed 1970s punk rock edge.
The brand first showed the new collection at London Fashion Week back in February, followed by a presentation in Paris earlier this week.
Of the many details that recurred throughout the collection, it was the round metal studs that stood out the most, embellishing everything from military jackets to handbags and leather boots. Hounds-tooth wool trousers paired with leather suspenders were also on display, along with crisp white collared shirts and a cozy shearling coat. Coca has also chosen green as the brand’s new signature colour, which can be seen in the lining of a few outerwear pieces.
Looks are rounded off with oversized rings featuring animal motifs, and a necklace, in black or white, with a human heart and flowers.
The brand’s signature Bayswater satchel has been given a new look and now features metal chain hardware. Meanwhile, Coca has also given us a new handbag, The Clifton, an over the shoulder piece, accompanied by a gold strap and available in leather or python.
