Lanvin has announced Bouchra Jarrar will take over as artistic director of womenswear. The announcement comes after the brand famously ousted Alber Elbaz in October 2015.

Jarrar, although relatively unknown outside fashion circles, has a fine pedigree. With over 20 years of experience, she has worked with Jean Paul Gaultier, spent ten years at Balenciaga under Nicolas Ghesquiere, and then moved to Christian Lacroix as director of the haute couture studio, where she worked until 2009. She founded her own label in 2010 and was invited to be a guest member of Chambre syndicale de la Haute Couture the same year. Jarrar eventually became a full member in 2013, earning the right to call herself an haute couturier.

Of Jarrar’s appointment, Lanvin’s CEO, Michele Huiban, says: “Her timeless style is in keeping with the style and values of our company. Boucher Jarrar and I share the same modern vision of fashion, so it was only natural that our paths should cross.”

Lanvin was founded in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin, and is not only one of the few remaining independent labels, but remains the oldest French fashion house to date.
