Desert dreams from Etro at Milan Fashion Week but rain forecast

Our Review Ed Clare Dight is in Milan experiencing the heady world of Fashion Week. Normally immersed in the more serious side of feature writing, we get a glimpse into what she makes of it all.

It’s strange that on a grey-skies day in Milan, in the huge white hall inside Palazzo del Ghiaccio, the desert makes an appearance.

As the lights go up at the Etro Spring/Summer 2015 Show, to a thumping soundtrack provided by The Doors' Riders on the Storm, a flood of models stalk down the catwalk. Fans of Veronica Etro's wearable style will recognise her signature paisley, this time recast and beaded, Navajo-style.

The inspiration, we’re told is the Etro woman who “rises this season from the sand and heat of the desert like an opulent mirage”.

Regardless of the PR messaging, the audience perched on tiny silk Etro Home cushions is loving the Boho spirit. Cue whoops and applause before the crowd streams out into the rain this time holding their cushions over their heads.

Read more about what it’s really like to attend the shows at Milan Fashion Week this Friday in The National’s Weekend section.
