Tropical storm Hermine forms in the Gulf of Mexico



MIAMI // Tropical storm Hermine has formed in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Texas. A new tropical storm warning has been issued early today for the south Texas coast from the mouth of the Rio Grande River to Baffin Bay. A tropical storm warning was already in effect for the eastern coast of Mexico, from Tampico to the mouth of the Rio Grande. Hermine's maximum sustained winds are near 65kph and the storm is expected to grow stronger before it hits land.

Heavy rain is predicted, with northeastern Mexico to south Texas getting 10 to 20 centimetres with up to a 30cm in some places. The storm is 375 kilometres southeast of La Pesca, Mexico, and is moving north at 13 kph. * AP
