Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un have become the first sitting leaders of their countries to meet, shaking hands before a summit at the Capella hotel in Singapore just 10 months after the US president threatened North Korea with "fire and fury".
The talks, the first of their kind, addressed the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and the warming of relations between the two countries.
Mr Kim and his South Korean counter-part Moon Jae-in committed to the denuclearisation of the peninsula in April.
They also agreed to bring an end to the Korean War, a 65-year-old conflict.

The president of the United States said that after the signing of the denuclearisation document, Kim Jong-un agreed to destroy the site.
Mr Trump struck an optimistic tone, "I know as soon as he arrives he will start a process that will bring about great change."
This seems to refer to increased trade with the rest of the world, "there's no limit to what North Korea can achieve when it gives up its nuclear weapons and embraces commerce and engagement with the rest of the world," the president said. Hong Kong shares ended higher on Tuesday following the summit.
At the press conference Mr Trump also announced that he will be ceasing "war games" with South Korea, and that he hopes to withdraw US troops from the Korean peninsular.
Before the conference the US team showed a mock US movie trailer putting the choice of peace and prosperity to Mr Kim Jong-un, containing the line "two men two leaders, one destiny."
Mr Trump started the conference by thanking his hosts Singapore and Chairman Kim, and said, "we're prepared to start a new history...adversaries can indeed become friends."

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman openly wept on television in a live interview from Singapore as Trump and Kim met for the first time. He told the Associated Press that he hopes to soon visit the White House.
The eccentric former reality television star is one of the few westerners to have spent time with Mr Kim during multiple visits to Pyongyang.
The two struck up an unlikely friendship over their shared love of basketball. Rodman also goes back years with Trump and appeared on his "Celebrity Apprentice" show.

“I believe this is a good prelude for peace,” Mr Kim said as the two men sat accompanied by top aides an hour into their meeting in Singapore. Mr Trump responded by saying “I do, too.” Looking Mr Kim in the eye, he said “we will solve it, we will be successful.” He went on to say: "We will solve a big problem" and "a big dilemma."
Mr Trump talked about the pair achieving "tremendous success together" and predicts that "it will be successful. It will be done."

06.25 — Larry Kudlow is 'doing well' after heart attack
Mr Trump’s top economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, was “doing well” on Monday night after suffering a heart attack, a White House spokeswoman said.
“Our Great Larry Kudlow, who has been working so hard on trade and the economy, has just suffered a heart attack,” Mr Trump said in a tweet from Singapore shortly before his summit with Kim Jong Un. “He is now in Walter Reed Medical Center.”
Mr Trump offered no further details on the 70-year-old Kudlow’s medical condition or prognosis.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later said of Mr Kudlow: “He’s doing well.”
Mr Kudlow's wife, Judy, said he was doing "fine", Robert Costa, a Washington Post reporter, said in a Twitter posting. In another tweet, Mr Costa said Mr Kudlow "is up and talking tonight and spoke by phone with Dr Art Laffer," citing two people close to Mr Kudlow.

US president Donald Trump predicted he would have a "terrific relationship" with North Korea's Kim Jong Un Tuesday, as the pair met for a historic Singapore summit.

Top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow suffered a heart attack and is being treated at a Washington area hospital, President Donald Trump said in a tweet apparently sent while he was in the motorcade on his way to the summit.

State media in North Korea reported on Tuesday Kim Jong Un's late-night tour of Singapore, in a break with their usual cautious approach to covering the leader.
AP reports that Pyongyang's official Rodong Sinmun on Tuesday filled its front page with photos of his visits to Singapore's landmarks, including the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay Sands resort.
The North's Korean Central News Agency quoted Kim as saying that Singapore is "clean and beautiful and every building is stylish" and that he will learn "a lot from the good knowledge and experience of Singapore in various fields in the future."
It's rare that security-obsessed North Korea reports on Kim's activities within hours. When Kim visited China for meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping in March and May, state media didn't report on the trips until after he returned home.

There are an estimated 2,500 foreign journalists in the country for the summit, the largest single gathering of media that Singapore has seen. The Associated Press reports that Mr Trump will give an interview to Fox News host Sean Hannity after the summit today.
Fox News says the interview will take place Tuesday at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island in Singapore. Mr Trump and Mr Kim are set to meet on Sentosa Island on Tuesday morning for roughly 45 minutes while their entourages wait nearby.
The interview will air on Fox’s Hannity at 9pm ET on Tuesday night.
Fox News says the president will talk about the meeting with Mr Kim and future relations between the two countries.
Mr Hannity is a friend and confidant of the president and speaks out in support of Trump on his show.

Mr Trump has already taken to Twitter to say that "we will all know soon" whether he can reach a deal with North Korea's Kim Jong Un to end its nuclear programme.
The US president is tweeting hours before the leaders' historic face-to-face that, "Meetings between staffs and representatives are going well and quickly."
But he says that, "in the end, that doesn't matter. We will all know soon whether or not a real deal, unlike those of the past, can happen!"
Before leaving Washington for Singapore, Mr Trump said his gut instincts will guide him when he gets into the room with Mr Kim.
He told reporters he'll know almost immediately whether a deal can be made, saying: "I will know, just my touch, my feel. That's what I do."

22.10 — Dennis Rodman arrives in Singapore; former NBA star says he hopes it's a success
As if this surreal circus needed any more bizarre elements added to it, the former professional basketball player Dennis Rodman has turned up in Singapore. Rodman first met Kim Jong-un in January 2014 when he took a team of basketball players to North Korea for an exhibition match, and returned there last year.
He arrived in the city-state some nine hours before Trump meets with Kim in a bid to negotiate an end to a decades-old nuclear stand-off.
Rodman said he expected the Trump-Kim summit to "go fairly well" but added "people should not expect too much for the first time".
"I'm just happy to be a part of it," he told reporters at Changi Airport.
"I think that I brought awareness to a lot of things around the world and I think North Korea has given a lot of people the opportunity to do this conference now and I hope it's a success.
"Who knew this would have happened five to six years ago … It's exciting to be a part of it."

18:16 — Kim has late-night tour of Singapore
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who rarely ventures outside his isolated country, visited tourist sites on Singapore's waterfront on Monday, hours before a historic summit with US President Donald Trump.
Kim is not believed to have left his hotel since a meeting with Singapore's prime minister, Lee Hsien Loong, soon after his arrival on Sunday in the city-state, but ventured out on Tuesday evening, smiling as he walked through the lobby to his limousine.
Kim's first stop was a waterfront park with futuristic installations, Gardens by the Bay, which boasts the largest glass greenhouse and tallest indoor waterfall in the world.
Police and onlookers were also seen gathering outside the Marina Bay Sands hotel, which resembles a giant surfboard perched on three columns at the mouth of the Singapore River.

President Trump will leave the summit in Singapore earlier than planned after good progress in preliminary talks between the US and North Korean delegations.
Mr Trump was due to leave Singapore on Wednesday morning, but according to the Associated Press, the US president will now leave at 20:00 (UTC+8 16:00 UTC+4) on Tuesday evening.
The White House said on Monday the talks regarding nuclear weapons have moved "more quickly than expected." It is not yet known exactly what progress has been made.
The meeting on Tuesday is due to start at 09:00 (UTC+8, 05:00 UTC+4). After greeting each other, the two leaders, plus their translators, will sit one on one in a room for up to two hours. The summit could also include a working lunch, and a larger meeting involving aides to both leaders.

14:00 — Pompeo: 'the United States has been fooled before'
The US secretary of state Mike Pompeo has warned that "the United States has been fooled before" by North Korean promises.
Warning in a press conference that the United States will not be duped again, Mr Pompeo said, "the United States has been fooled before there's no doubt about it.
"Many presidents previously have signed off on pieces of paper only to find that the North Koreans have either, didn't promise what we thought they had, or actually reneged on their promises."
However, speaking assuming North Korea commits to full denuclearisation, Mr Pompeo also said "we will take actions to provide them sufficient certainty that they can be comfortable that denuclearisation is not something that ends badly for them".
"Just the opposite," he said. "That it leads to a brighter and better future for the North Korean people."
"I'm very optimistic we will have a successful outcome with the two leaders.
"There are only two people that can make decisions of this magnitude. Those two people will sit in a room tomorrow."

Analysis: Kim Jong-un has already derived legitimacy from the Trump summit
Mr Kim is yet to give up anything he really values, and the North Korean leader will gain political capital by sitting at the same table as President Trump. Images of their meet and greet, and the news of the impending audience with the leader of the free world will only serve to strengthen Mr Kim's internal power.
Meanwhile, President Trump must have a successful outcome to claim a win. In his short tenure at the top, Mr Trump has made a habit of pulling out of accords. The summit is in a fragile state, but Mr Kim may soon achieve what his father and grandfather were unable to — holding a tête-à-tête with a US president.

Special national security adviser to South Korean President Moon Jae-in said in Tokyo on Monday that North Korea’s past action should not be used to try to predict its future behaviour.
Moon Chung-in said during a panel discussion that the US had blamed North Korea for breaking promises regarding its nuclear programme in the past, but that it "would have different views".
"Now is the time to set aside all those things. Let us see whether North Korea can deliver what the US wants and the entire world wants," he said.

South Korean president Moon Jae-in has no plans to join Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un at their meeting on Tuesday, a spokesman for Mr Moon said. The South Korean president and North Korean leader have met twice this year, representing a thaw in relations between the two countries who are still officially at war.
