A Moroccan girl has died in Saudi Arabia after being hit by a stray bullet, according to Arab News.
The 5-month old was not killed immediately when struck by the bullet near a mall in Khamis Mushayt, a city in south-west Saudi Arabia. She died about 24-hours later, according to her father, identified only as Saeed.
“My wife, her pregnant sister, myself and my baby were at a travel agent buying tickets to Morocco since my parents had not seen the baby since she was born,” he said. “My wife and sister-in-law were waiting for me outside when I heard the sound of a nearby shot. My wife had found Tufaha covered in blood.”
The girl was transferred to Al Hayat National Hospital Asir with the help of a Saudi man, her family told Arab News.
The distraught father has asked for help finding out who was responsible for his daughter’s death.
“The police have instructed nearby mosques to announce that anyone who fired gunshots must come forward and contact the police,” he said.
Local media reported that the incident has shocked the public and is “considered the first of its kind in the area”.
