About 35 kilometres northwest of Cairo is the small village of Birqash, home of Egypt's largest camel market.

Camels are brought in from as far as Sudan and Somalia ready to be sold daily. Friday is the busiest day for trade where the ships of the desert are sold between 18,000 and 40,000 Egyptian pounds (Dh4,000-8,900) depending on their age and health.
